Do you remember your first time on the Uncle Al Show? If you grew up in Cincinnati, during 1950 to 1985, the odds are you watched and/or were on the show.
My dad, Mike Tangi, was the Uncle Al Show’s first director and producer in the early years between 1953—1963. Here are a few of my photos; share your memories, photos, and/or comments with me.

I absolutely loved the Uncle Al show and I still have my photo from my visit to the show in 1973! Everyone is there in the picture, my 4-year old self and my twin sister in the front row. I adored Captain Wendy!
I was born in 1977. I remember being on the show in the early 80’s.
I had the good fortune to actually be on the Uncle Al Show. I believe it was 1958. I was 7 years old. My mom and my aunt took my brother and my two cousins downtown to Cincinnati to be on the show. As it happened, I was the oldest and biggest kid in the studio that day. So, I was chosen to be (I think the name was) Roger Robot (maybe Robbie Robot). During a commercial, I was taken offstage to get into costume. I was taken back behind the set and when commercial was over, I was announced by Uncle Al and made my entrance from the back of the set. It was so cool. All the kids gathered around me as I simply did what Uncle Al led me to do … which was act as a robot would act. After that, I was in a tricycle race around a large Grippo’s Pretzel can. The prize was a Davy Crockett canteen. Since I was a HUGE Davy Crockett fan, I had to have that canteen. Uncle Al said “go!” I took off and raced around the can once before the other two competitors even moved! I said “I won.” Uncle Al said, “you gotta go aroune 3 times!” So, zooom … I raced around two more times … beat my competitors and won the Davy Crockett canteen. Also, that day was the Birthday Slide. My brother climbed up the ladder to the top of the slide. Uncle Al said, “and how old are you?” My brother said, “it’s not my birthday!” He then slid down the slide. This was LIVE television! The audience laughed. It was even funnier when my brother went up a second time … got the same question … and gave the same answer … zoooom he went … down the slide. What a time!
Great show. It brings tears to my eyes to think about such fun TV shows that emanated out of Cincinnati. Bob Shreve, Skipper Ryle, Paul Dixon, Ruth Lyons, et al. But, the greatest of these was The Uncle Al Show.
